Billy McNeill Celtic Football Club Ambassador and John Reid Chairman of Celtic Football Club

Celtic Football Club are delighted to announce that Celtic legend Billy McNeill has been named as Club Ambassador.
In recognition of Billy’s magnificent contribution to the Club over so many years, Billy will be presented with a seat for life in the Presidential Box at Celtic Park and will represent the Club at a range of events, including all European fixtures, where he will accompany the Celtic Board of Directors.
Celtic Chairman John Reid said: “The Celtic Board of Directors is delighted that Billy has accepted our invitation to become an Ambassador for the Club.
"Billy is a man who I watched serve our great Club with distinction over many years, as he graced Scottish and European football as one of the finest players of his generation.
"As a supporter attending matches throughout the 1960s and 1970s, it was a privilege to see Billy in action and in recent years it has been a privilege to get to know this great man.
"A born leader, he took the great Lisbon Lions to the summit of European football and dominated domestic football for years.
"Billy also managed the Club with great success lifting a total of 8 trophies, including four League Championship victories.
“A man of true integrity and humility, Billy is someone who will always be held in the highest of esteem by the Club and its supporters. We are delighted to offer Billy this role - there is no finer individual to receive such an accolade.”
Billy McNeill said: “This really is a tremendous honour for me and I am most grateful to the Club for making this gesture.
"Celtic has been such a big part of my life for so many years and it is most satisfying to be recognised in this way.
"I have always maintained a close relationship with the Club since I stopped playing and then managing and I look forward to continuing this association.
“Celtic truly is one of the world’s greatest football clubs, with a wonderful stadium and the best supporters in the game – it will be a real privilege to take on this role and continue to be part of such a great footballing family.”
The Executive Committee of St Oliver Plunkett CSC commends this appointment and is delighted that our beloved team is to be represented by Billy McNeill. He will fulfil the role with distinction and will continue to bring honour to our Club as he has done over many decades.
