Marc Antoine Fortuné

Marc-Antoine Fortuné (born 2 July 1981 in Cayenne, French Guiana) is a French professional football player, currently with Scottish club Celtic.

As a child Fortuné played both football and basketball, but gave the latter up at aged 12 due to scheduling conflicts.  At age 16 he was given a trial by French side, Rennes. He was not offered a contract, but instead signed for lower League team Angouleme. He broke into the Angouleme side in the 1999/2000 season and had a successful start scoring three goals in ten appearances before the end of the seasons. He continued to perform well over the following seasons and started to be linked with Ligue 1 clubs. In the Summer of 2002 he joined Ligue 1 Lille.

Lille

Upon joining Lille the then 21-year old struggled, finding himself played on the left of midfield and going through a series of injuries. He was injured on his second appearance for the club ruling out for one month, upon his return to action, he again picked up an injury missing a further six weeks. In his first and only season he made just 7 starts and 9 subsititue appearances for the Club not managing to score a goal.

Rouen

Marc joined Ligue 2 club Rouen on loan in the Summer of 2003. A fresh start for the player saw a return to form. Playing from right-midfield he managed to score goals in his first few appearances which earned him a role back to his preferred Striker position, his favoured position. A successful season at Rouen ending with ten goals in thirty-four appearances earned him a move to Stade Brest.

Brest

Marc moved to Stade Brest in July 2004, making it his third new club in three successive seasons. A successful move to Brest, with Marc playing on the right side of a front three and scoring ten goals in thirty-three appearances drew attention from bigger clubs.

Utrecht

In 2005 he moved to Utrecht in the Dutch Eredivisie. Finding himself back in the winger role he enjoyed a successful time in Utrecht but stuggled after the death of his friend, neighbour and team mate David de Tomasso.  He looked for a move back to France in January 2007, which brought interest from AS Nancy, whom he agreed to join.

Nancy

Returning to France in January 2007, his fifth move in 5 years, he started off well scoring six goals in seventeen appearances by the end of the season. The 2007/2008 season struggling to score goals he took on the role of substitute for most of the seasons, finishing the season with just seven goals in 38 appearances, his third season at Nancy saw much of the same. He made twenty-four appearances mostly as a subsititute finding the net just twice and looked for a move from the club.

West Brom

Fortuné moved to West Bromwich albion in the January 2009 transfer  window, joining on loan for the remainder of the 2008–09 season.  He made his debut for West Bromwich Albion in their 3-0 Premier League home win over Middlesborough and scored by deflecting team mate Robert Koren's shot into the net.  In just 5 months with the club, he became a fan favourite of the supporters, scoring five goals in eighteen appearances as well as creating other goals. He won the West Bromwich Albion Supporters' Player of the Year despite only joining the club in January.

Celtic

In July 2009 it was widely reported that Fortune was in talks with, Celtic, managed by his former boss at West Brom, Tony Mowbray.  The followung day he agreed personal terms and passed medical.  On 9 July Fortuné cmpleted his move to Celtic in a deal worth £3.8 million.  He made his debut for Celic against Brisbane Roar at the Suncorp Stadium in the Translink Cup.
